Peoples Democratic Party candidates from Pattan Assembly constituency Molvi Imran Ansari Sunday appealed people to maintain calm and dismissed the rumors that there was any type of Shia-Sunni clashes had happened anywhere in Kashmir valley.

Addressing a press conference, Imran Ansari alleged that some police officers were trying to divide people on sectarian lines. “These officers on Saturday used force on mourners who were attending a Majlis.”

Demanding a thorough probe into the incident he said, “There should be a proper probe to find out who wants to divide Muslims in Kashmir on sectarian lines. I appeal DGP and IGP to hold a probe and till the probe is complete these officers who used force on mourners should be removed from the present posts.”

“If police are our protectors DGP, IGP and SSP give an answer whether protection is done this way. Does anybody go to mourning with guns? When I spoke to District Magistrate he said ‘it is injustice’” the PDP leader added.

Imran Ansari and his some workers had sustained injuries when police resorted to cane charge and fired several rounds in air to prevent his entry into Khandah village Saturday morning. Recounting the incident, Imran said, “All of a sudden police started baton charge and I was hit by a baton. By the time I regained my conscious I saw policemen beating mourners who had come to attend the Majlis. Some people took me to Imambara.”
