KUPWARA

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti Sunday said Jammu and Kashmir is at the crossroads of historic opportunity to mark a new beginning and the winds of change have already set in right from Salamabad to Lakhanpur. She said there is a strong wave building for PDP given its pro-people agenda.

“The Lok Sabha elections have already laid the foundations for the momentous political transformation and people across the length and breadth of the State want to conclude this process by bringing about the much-needed change of the Government in Jammu and Kashmir,” Mehbooba said while addressing an election rally in Lolab assembly segment of this border district.

“I am here today seeking votes not just to form the next Government in the State, but enlist support for putting in place a PDP regime headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that has the commitment and the consistency to deliver on its agenda of ensuring larger political and economic welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said and added that the people shall have to exercise their franchise more effectively and decisively in the upcoming assembly elections to shape a new and bright future for the State.

Mehbooba said there is a strong mood prevailing on the ground in favor of the PDP and people are now fed up with the present ruling party which has never been serious to address their issues. “It is only through the vote that we can get rid of the present anarchic regime and pave the way for a responsible system and sincere leadership to change the destiny of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said and added the people are aware enough this time about the importance of vote and they are going to give a strong mandate to their party – PDP.

Mehbooba said it is only with the wholehearted support of the people that her party can save the State from the miseries of the misrule and anarchy which was rampant during the past 6 years. “The agenda of PDP could to a large extent respond to the complex problems of the state, faced as it is with decades’ long political uncertainty, development deficit, unfulfilled aspirations, mounting unemployment, corruption, nepotism and favoritism,” she said.

Mehbooba said the people are rightly fed up with the insensitivity of the present self-centered regime and they would respond appropriately to this feeling of utter neglect when they will have to cast their votes. “We hope that people would judge us on our performance during our brief stint in the government, in opposition and on the basis of the agenda of change that we placed before them,” she added and added that under the visionary leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, PDP would work with fresh zeal towards mitigating the sufferings of the state and its people.

Referring to the local issues, Mehbooba assured the people of the area that if PDP comes to power their long-pending demand for tehsil status to Wavoora and Kalaroos would be fulfilled. She said PDP government would also develop Lolab-Bandipora road by constructing a tunnel on it. She said this will open new areas for tourism in Kupwara and Bandipora districts.

She said more areas would be brought under irrigation facilities to boost agriculture and horticulture production in the area besides setting up of an industrial park.

PDP candidate for Lolab Assembly segment Abdul Haq Khan and other party leaders also addressed the rally.
