Reacting to PDP spokesman Naeem Akhtar’s defense of the indefensible pro-Modi utterances of Mehbooba Mufti, NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani has asked PDP to come out of the closet and accept its tacit alliance with BJP.

“PDP’s unholy nexus with BJP is not a political secret anymore as Mehbooba Mufti and Mufti Sayeed have clearly exhibited their admiration for Narendra Modi numerous times in the last few months alone,” said Nasir.

Nasir said that Mehbooba’s language in attacking the UPA and her act of hurling personal insults on Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi lacked the dignity that was ;unfortunately expected’ from the leader of the opposition.

“Her simultaneous admiration of Narendra Modi goes against the sensitivities of the people of J&K, who are diametrically opposed to everything that Modi stands for,” he added.

PDP, Nasir further said has a right to warm up to any quarter or political party but their hypocrisy in wanting to have the cake and eat it too is too ironic.

“How can a regional political party from a Muslim-majority State claim to have a “vision and agenda to channelize the aspirations of the people” when it is in such awe of a divisive, communal figure like Modi,” he asked.

Nasir said that it was time to wonder if PDP’s repeated endorsement of Modi was an act they were performing under a pact where they had promised to support Modi’s dream of abrogating Article 370 in view of a shot at power?

“Mufti Sayeed was an integrationist by conviction and has always opposed the State’s special status behind closed doors right from his debut in politics. Now, it seems that PDP has found a new opportunity to support an assault on the State’s special status, its identity and ethos of secularism,” he added.

He further added that NC had a history of opposing communalism and divisive politics and would continue to do so.

“We are ready to take on a BJP-PDP alliance in both the Parliamentary as well as the Assembly Elections. The party is on a strong, pro-incumbency footing in all three regions of the State and will give a befitting reply to PDP’s politics of deceit and lies,” he said.
