The Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) Thursday asked the United Nation member states not to recommend India for a permanent seat in the Security Council for its human rights record in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement , an APDP (Bund) spokesperson said that the Indian State has no moral right to claim any credibility internationally after abusing human rights that include, enforced disappearance of more than 8000 people, existence of 7000 plus unknown, unmarked and mass graves, extrajudicial killings, torture, sexual assault and numerous other human rights violations.
“The Indian States record in Jammu and Kashmir must not be rewarded. On the contrary, international pressure and condemnation must be immediately brought to bear on a State that has no regard for the rule of law, or human life in Jammu and Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.
Referring to the State Human Rights Commission’s verdict of October 2011 on the presence of unmarked and massed graves and seeking among others, Forensic Examination of the remains interred in the graves along with DNA, the spokesman said that none of the recommendations of the commission have been implemented by the government and no investigation has been initiated so far.
“The member states of the UN must be guided in their relations with the Indian State by a sense of responsibility and sensitivity to the realities of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the spokesperson said, adding “The international community cannot escape their responsibility to the victims of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir,”
The APDP statement asked the Member states of UN to question, and exerts pressure upon India to uphold the internationally recognized human rights principles and standards before recommending the country for a Permanent Seat in the SC.
“As the struggle for truth, justice, dignity and honor continues, the international community must be aware that their actions today form a part of the historical record and there will be accountability,” the statement added.
APDP, the statement said stands and will always stand against the India states claim for the permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for its record of human rights violations in the conflict ridden state.
“As part of persistent campaign APDP today amassed to question such an entitlement to a country like India that has worst human rights record and sponsors impunity and injustice to victims without any accountability,” the spokesman added.
The spokesperson also asked the government of Pakistan to divulge the details of hundreds of people including the husband of Amina Masood Janjua, a prominent human rights activist of Pakistan.
