National Conference President and MP Dr Farooq Abdullah Monday led a delegation of opposition leaders to Governor N N Vohra and impressed upon him to convene a special session of JK Assembly.

The delegation which included NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, JKPCC state chief G A Mir, CPI M leader M Y Tarigami, DPN President G H Mir, Chairman PDF Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Congress leader and MLA Usmaan Majeed in addition to senior NC leaders Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Mian Altaf, apprised the Governor about the pervaling situation in the state. The delegation also brought to the notice of Governor, the lackadaisical  approach of PDP-BJP government  in addressing issues concerning people of the state.

The opposition leaders impressed upon the governor the need to call for a special session of the legislature and have a threadbare discussion on the problems faced by people of the state.

A joint statement issued after the meeting with governor said that the essentiality of a joint session was due to the impending threat to the state’s unique relation with India.

“The session will also enable a discussion on various political and legal challenges the state is facing,” the joint statement reads.

Among other issues highlighted in the meeting was the “total failure of the incumbent government” especially  on fronts of curbing booming and rampant corruption, promotion of nepotism and backdoor appointments and dismal performance of state in forwarding the interests of it  people. “Many government departments and PSUs have been turned into the fiefdom of the ruling parties,” the statement  read.
