Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day event at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on Wednesday, Shah said the remaining months of 2026 and the following two years should be used to intensify the campaign against drugs.

He stressed the need for coordinated and sustained action, warning that drug abuse threatened future generations, imposed an economic burden and provided funding to organisations involved in anti-national activities.

Shah also flagged off a nationwide motorcycle rally under the slogan “Fight Against Drugs”. Around 90 police riders from states, Union Territories, central armed police forces and other central police organisations are taking part in the rally. They are scheduled to reach Ekta Nagar in Gujarat on October 31 for the Ekta Parade.

Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 every year to honour the 10 police personnel killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.
