Earthquake Jolts Assam, Tremors Felt in Bhutan

   

SRINAGAR: A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Assam on Thursday evening, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said, triggering tremors across the region, including neighbouring Bhutan.

According to the NCS, the quake occurred at around 4:30 pm with its epicentre near Dhekiajuli, about 14 km from the town. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.

Earlier this week, a stronger 5.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded in central Assam and other parts of the Northeast. That tremor struck at 4:17 am on Monday, with its epicentre in Morigaon district at a depth of 50 km.

The earlier quake was felt across several districts on both sides of the Brahmaputra, including Kamrup, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Cachar, Dhubri, Darrang, Sonitpur and Lakhimpur.
