SRINAGAR: The Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Kashmir, has issued a public advisory asking vehicle owners, particularly two-wheeler riders across the Kashmir Division, to clear all pending traffic challans within seven days, warning of strict legal action in case of non-compliance.
In the notice, RTO Kashmir Irfan Qazi said it had been observed that a large number of two-wheelers were being operated in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, notably instances of riders and pillion riders travelling without protective headgear and committing other traffic offences.
The violations, the notice said, not only contravene statutory provisions but also pose serious risks to road safety, endangering lives and public property. It added that challans had already been issued against defaulting vehicle owners or operators, many of which remain unpaid.
All defaulters in the Kashmir Division have been directed to clear their pending challans within seven days from the date of publication of the notice.
The RTO warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would invite strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act, including penalties, suspension of driving licences and vehicle documents, and seizure of vehicles without further notice.
