Minister for Finance, Culture and Labour & Employment, Dr Haseeb A Drabu Thursday said that 72 youth of Leh district have been given trainings for setting up their own units under HIMAYAT programme.

Replying to a question by Deldan Namgail, the Minister said that 95 candidates are registered out of which 72 candidates have been trained by Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute and 26 candidates have been linked to financial assistance, an official spokesperson said this evening.

He said that similarly under the youth start up Loan scheme, 71 cases have been financed. He said that delay in the process under HIMAYAT/Youth Start-up has been mainly due to the incomplete formalities. He said that the applicants are being approached regularly to complete their formalities.

The Minister said that financing entrepreneurs of the State was not the focus of the EDI. He informed that their main aim was to train and impart management trainings to the upcoming entrepreneurs of the State.

“There arise some issues when an agency meant for imparting training also does financing. This wasn’t their aim and goal,” Mr Drabu said. “EDI should only focus on training and have tie-up with the financial institutions for better results.”
