Protest

Pampore town of Pulwama district Monday witnessed defied restrictions when youth Monday morning staged massive protests as a gunfight rages in EDI building at Sempore, 5km from Pampore, between militants and government forces.

Authorities had imposed Section 144 in Pampore town where massive stone pelting was witnessed on Sunday after people tried to march towards the gunfight site.

Witnesses from the town told Kashmir Life that massive protests are going on in the entire Pampore town.

Youth are engaged in pitched battles with police and paramilitary forces, they said.

“Angry protestors have burnt tyres at many places and have taken the control of the highway,” the witnesses told Kashmir Life.

So far, six people, including two captains and a soldier of Para 9, two paramilitary troopers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and a civilian have been killed in the gunfight.

The gunfight started on Saturday evening when militants attacked a CRPF bus at Sempora on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.
