SRINAGAR: Eight faculty members of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar have been included in the 2026 edition of the World’s Top 2 percent Scientists database, compiled by researchers associated with Stanford University and Elsevier, recognising their research contributions across various disciplines.

The faculty members named in the database are Dr Vijay Kumar of the Department of Physics; Dr Neeraj Gupta of the Department of Electrical Engineering; Dr Pravan Kumar Katiyar of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering; Dr Sandeep Samantaray and Prof Bashir Ahmad Mir of the Department of Civil Engineering; Dr Sandeep Rathee of the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Prof M. The database, released this week, assesses researchers using standardised citation indicators based on Scopus data. Its evaluation includes citations, the h-index, co-authorship-adjusted h-index, career-long research impact and performance during a single year.
Congratulating the faculty members, NIT Srinagar Director Prof Anurag Misra said the recognition reflected the institute’s continued efforts to promote research quality and academic excellence. He described the achievement as a matter of pride and said it would enhance the institute’s research profile while encouraging innovation and scientific inquiry.
Registrar Prof Atikur Rehman also congratulated the researchers, saying their inclusion highlighted the institute’s research environment and academic commitment. He expressed confidence that the recognition would inspire students, research scholars and early-career faculty members to pursue innovative research and contribute to scientific progress.
