Maintaining that there was no specific militant threat during the coming assembly elections, Director General Police (DGP) K. Rajendra Kumar Tuesday said that the police have prioritized the conduction of polls sans any disruption.

Talking to KNS, he said that though there is no specific militant threat for the coming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, starting from November 25, the police in view of the recent incidents is taking all the necessary measures to thwart any militancy related incidents. He added that the department has prioritized its efforts in ensuring elections in conducive atmosphere without any disruption in law and order situation.

Over the threat of the stone pelting incidents during the polling days at various areas of Kashmir valley, the DGP remarked that the elements which are hell-bent upon disrupting the poll activities at various places have been identified and that preventive measures will also be taken in a bid to avoid any disruption in law and order situation particularly during assembly elections.  “We have seen in the past that various persons during the stone throwing incidents have been targeting the polling stations and disrupting the poll process at large. We have identified them and we will not allow anyone from any place to get a free hand in disturbing the elections,” Rajendra said.

Over the declaration of various polling booths as ‘sensitive’ and ‘hyper sensitive’, the state police chief remarked that the polling booths located in close proximity of the areas wherein militancy related incidents have taken place shall be  declared as the hyper sensitive and sensitive booths.

Talking to KNS over phone from New Delhi after the security review meet, the DGP said that he meeting discussed the overall security scenario of Jammu and Kashmir in view of the coming assembly elections. He added that the meeting also discussed to bring additional logistic support from the neighboring states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, if needed.
