Chief Minister and National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah Tuesday said his party was a perennial bond of amity and mutual trust between the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

Omar addressed public meetings in Tyakshi, Turtuk and Bogdang in Ladakh six and highlighted the work done by his Government in the region in the last six years.

“No political party has demonstrated a greater and more equitable political will to usher Ladakh region into an era of prosperity, connectivity and progress as much as National Conference has. And this has been our legacy since the time of Sheikh Sahib and his land-to-the-tiller reforms which had an enormous liberating effect for the peasants in the Ladakh region as well. It was Sheikh Sahib who ensured the fair representation of Ladakh in his first popular government by inducting Kushak Bakula Rinpochee as a Minister for Ladakh Affairs. The concept of ‘Ladakh Affairs’ has been envisioned by NC to ensure equitable development in the region. It has always been our endeavor to ensure a greater connectivity and an increased level of governance in the most remote regions of the Ladakh region and we have achieved historic success in this mission in the last six years” he said.

Omar said that the National Conference led Government had brought more connectivity to the region and brought the administration closer to the people by the creation of New Administrative Units. “This mission of ours was expressed in our efforts to create new administrative units in this region for instance. We created a new Tehsil in Diksit, Community Development Blocks in Turtuk, Bogdang and Sumoor while creating new Nayabats in Panamik, Khalsar, Charasa, Diskit and Bogdang. This will bring the government closer to your areas and you will not have to travel huge distances for getting your work done”, the CM said while addressing public meetings in Tyakshi, Turtuk and Bogdang.

“There are politicians who are coming to this region today to ask for your votes. You should ask these political parties and their leaders what they have done for the people of this region apart from issuing press notes and giving speeches. While the BJP is trying to have three different stands on a single issue in three regions of the State, the Congress party on the other hand has converged all its focus on not making their candidates win but in opposing National Conference in the region. The reason for this is clear and simple – the association of National Conference with all of you and your love and support to National Conference is the biggest hurdle in their plans to locally fragment and divide you for their own partisan interests,” Omar said.

The CM said that communal harmony and regional cooperation formed the basis of NC’s political vision and the party had given numerous sacrifices to protect these values. “We have to stick together and breach new frontiers of development and progress and be assets for each other. Those who are trying to fragment us and divide us for their own political interests are enemies of this State and its future generation. We have seen unprecedented development by sticking together in the last six years and we will achieve greater success in the coming six years by ensuring that the bond of trust between Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh remains unharmed. I ask you to strengthen the hands of Tsetan Namgyal so that he can continue to serve your interests as opposed to the other political parties and their candidates who are here just to divide and exploit you”, Omar Abdullah said.

Sitting MLA and NC candidate from Nobra Tsetan Namgyal also addressed the public meetings and highlighted the work done by the National Conference led Government in the region in the last six years.
