SRINAGAR

Huriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has stated that the polls in Jammu and Kashmir are in no way any substitute of right to self determination and that if elections are held in the presence of 7.5 lakh forces, it is a military operations and not elections.

Continuing the relief distribution works, Geelani, according to the statement, today distributed ten thousand rupees cheque and a relief kit each to the 50 most deserving families of Pulwama and Islamabad districts who have lost their houses during the recent floods and who are still waiting for the adequate compensation from the government.

“The relief distribution function which was held at head office Central Relief Committee Hyderpora, was attended by many central officials including chairman Central Relief Committee Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Raja Mehraj-ud-din, Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar, Dr. G. M Ganai, Mir Hafizullah district president Islamabad, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat secretary district Pulwama and Abdul Hameed Magray. While addressing the flood affected people, Geelani sahib said on the occasion that the recent floods have broken us but we should not lose hope with Almighty Allah,” reads the statement issued to KNS, adding that Allah is all powerful and only he can help us to come out of this situation.

While terming the relief package announced by the Prime Minister of India for the flood-hit people of Jammu & Kashmir as unmentionable, Geelani said that the announced amount is not even equal to the 2 percent of the loss caused by the floods. “It is a cruel joke with the Kashmiries. The estimated loss is about 90 thousand crore rupees while as the announced amount is only 570 crore rupees. He said that the Indians treat Kashmiries as their enemies and inferior people.”

“To deceive the world, the Prime Minister of India announced to spend his time with the flood affected people of Kashmir but actually he had come here to encourage the occupying forces of India who are deployed at Siachen border. While terming the announcement of election as rubbing of salt to the injuries of Kashmiries, Geelani sahib said that the priority of the time should have been the rehabilitation of the flood affected people of Jammu & Kashmir who are still shelter less in this harsh season,” the statement said, adding that the announcement of election drama as unexpected and said that the election ‘drama’ held in Jammu and Kashmir is in no way any alternate to the plebiscite and the election in the presence of 7.5 lakh  forces is only a military operation. “We are not principally against the democracy but we have been promised at national as well as international levels that we will be given a chance to decide our future through holding plebiscites in Jammu & Kashmir. We want that those promises should be fulfilled and until it is not done, our struggle will remain continue in every way and at every cost.”

Chairman Hurriyat (G) also thanked all the people who helped and provided relief material for the flood hit people of Jammu & Kashmir including the President Shiromani Gurduwara Parbandak Committee (S.G.P.C Amritsar) Sardar Avtar Singh Makkar Ji, Secretary Sardar Diljeet Sing Bedi Ji, President District Gurdwara Parbandak Committee (D.G.P.C) Budgam Sardar Gurjeet Singh Ji, and APHC leader Advocate Devinder Singh Behal. He said that the kind people send their relief to us and without any delay we sent it to the affected people.

This process will continue till the relief materials are reaching to us. Geelani sahib further said that if Srinagar would have remained unaffected by the recent floods, then we would have not waited for the external help. We would have managed everything here but it was the Allah’s decision and we all should seek forgiveness before the Almighty for our sins.
