A lady has been killed in Brienty area of Dialgam in southern Kashmir’s Islamabad district on Saturday.

Reports reaching here said that, in the wee hours today, forces cordoned off the village after inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Local sources said that at around 4 am forces established contact with the militants resulting in an encounter .

They said that as soon as the encounter started people came out of their houses and started pelting stones on the forces apparently in a bid to help militants escape. “Announcements were made on Masjid loudspeakers asking people to come out and help the militants.”

However, forces kept them away from the encounter site by firing tear smoke shells and stun grenades.

During the operation, reports said, a lady, identified as Tahira was hit by a bullet. She was referred to DH Islamabad where she succumbed.

Doctors at the hospital told Kashmir Life that a bullet had hit Tahira at her back and pierced through her chest.

Police officials of the district said that Tahira was hit by a bullet during the cross fire. Tahira is in her late 40’s.
