SRINAGAR: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu and Kashmir State Centre (IEI-JKSC), held a webinar on Wednesday on the role of engineering bodies in the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
The webinar, organised to commemorate Royal Charter Day, brought together engineering professionals and experts to discuss infrastructure development, technical practices, sustainability and coordination among stakeholders in the region.
Er P Surya Prakash, FIE, Chairman of the Civil Engineering Division Board of the Institution of Engineers (India), was the keynote speaker. The resource persons included Er M Aaqlib Sultana Waheed Deva, FIE, Chief Engineer, JKPCTL; Er Rashid Ahmad Dar, FIE, Chief Engineer (Retd); and Er Rafiq Ahmad Rafiq, MIE, Chief Engineer (Retd).
Speaking at the programme, Er Ferdous Ahad Bhat, FIE, Chairman of IEI-JKSC, said engineering institutions should provide platforms for technical discussions, knowledge sharing and professional development, apart from engaging with developmental issues.
He stressed the need for greater coordination among engineers, academic institutions, government agencies and other stakeholders to address developmental challenges in Jammu and Kashmir.
The speakers discussed the need for modern engineering practices, technical expertise and sustainable approaches to infrastructure development, particularly in view of the region’s environmental sensitivities and long-term requirements.
The programme was convened by Er Irfan Ahmad Reshi, MIE, who presented its highlights. The webinar concluded with discussions on strengthening professional collaboration and the role of engineers in the region’s development.
