EOW Kashmir Chargesheets Man for Allegedly Cheating Cancer Patient’s Family

   

SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch JK has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of cheating a family by allegedly taking lakhs of rupees on the promise of supplying medicines for a cancer patient at a lower price.

The chargesheet was presented before the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 25/2026 registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Crime Branch said.

The accused has been identified as Afaq Ahmad Thug, son of Ghulam Qadir, a resident of New Colony, Hazratbal, near Shiwala Mandir, Anantnag, and presently residing at 10-Green Enclave, Barmuni Road, Sunjwan, Jammu.

According to the Crime Branch, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that Thug had promised to arrange medicines for the complainant’s wife, who was suffering from cancer, at a cheaper rate. The complainant allegedly paid lakhs of rupees after being induced by the accused, but the medicines were not supplied as promised.

The EOW Kashmir conducted an investigation into the allegations and found them substantiated, the Crime Branch said.

The investigation also established that the accused and the complainant had been schoolmates at a boarding school more than 40 years ago, according to the agency.

After completing the investigation, the EOW presented the chargesheet before the court for judicial determination in accordance with law.
