In a surprising move independent MLA Langate, Er Rasheed Tuesday locked down the main gate of DC Office Kupwara, despite heavy barriers and deployment of police and para-military forces, as a mark of protest against failure of the Govt to fill up the post of Deputy Commissioner lying vacant for over one month, a statement issued by Rasheed reads.

“A large number of people gathered at the spot and joined the move by chanting slogans against the government for not posting the deputy commissioner,” the statement said.

Talking to Media persons on the occasion Er Rasheed accused govt of ignoring the sufferings of Kashmir province in general and Kupwara in particular.

He said, “On one hand people in areas like Karnah, Machil, Keran, Nowgam and Jammagund etc are under continuous threat of cross LoC shelling and on the other hand whole of the district is suffering because of the administrative lapses.”

“It is shameful that despite making huge claims of transparency and good governance, the current govt transferred previous deputy commissioner only for the reasons that he couldn’t always follow the vicious dictates of ruling class, but on the other hand after so many days the whole district administration has been rendered headless resulting in huge inconvenience to masses,” Rasheed said.

He warned the government to fill up the post within four days or be ready to face mass agitation.
