Er Abdul Rashid from Kashmir University’s EMMRC has been awarded the special jury award for his documentary on environment titled as “Don’t Burn Leaves “at Indian International Science Film Festival (IISF) 2016 at NPL New Delhi.

Pertinently, Rashid was recently awarded Young Green Filmmaker award 2016 for his another Documentary on Dal Lake titled as The Bitter Truth “Dal losing battle between Locals and the Authorities at the Woodpecker International Film Festival 2016 in the month of September held at Sri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi, from September 15 to 18.

Working as technical assistant in EMMRC, Rashid told Kashmir Life, that during his time at the University of Kashmir, when everyone was making documentaries about the beauty of the lake, the environmentalist aspect of it disturbed him.

“I started filming just before the 2014 deluge, hoping to proceed at a moderate pace. However, the floods changed everything,” he said.

The film was screened at a glittering function at National Physical Laboratory Auditorium at India International Science Film Festival 2016 that was jointly organized by Department of Science & Technology, Department of Earth Sciences, CSIR, ISRO in collaboration with UK Consul, Embassies of Israel, USA, Germany and Sweden.
