In a significant development at International level European Parliament Friday passed the urgent resolution on the execution of Afzal Guru with majority of the voting for the motion.
“International Council for Human Rights (ICHR) has, with its intense lobbying, persuaded various political groups and considerable number of Members of the European Parliament to introduce a motion for an Urgency Resolution on the secret hanging of Afzal Guru. The proposed motion was discussed and voted in the European Parliament’s plenary session today in Strasbourg,” ICHR statement reads.
Strasbourg is the capital and principal city of the Alsace region in eastern France and is the official seat of the European Parliament. Located close to the border with Germany.
Meanwhile Barrister Trumbo head of ICHR termed this step as positive measure for human rights defenders and hoped that it will inspire further action from European leaders on the state of affairs in Kashmir.
