SRINAGAR: Two persons, believed to be the labourers, were killed in a mysterious blast inside the Field Ammunition Depot (FAD) at Khundroo near Achabal, reports from Anantnag said.

The ill-fated labourers were working in the army’s 21 FAD camp when an explosion took place. There were around half a dozen labourers working in the premises of whom four received splinter injuries. Military officials removed the injured to the camp’s medical facility where two of them died. They were identified as Gulzar Ahmad Khan and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat.

Fayaz, 43 is survived by his wife and an 18-year old son. He was working with FAD for last more than 10 years. A resident of Kotheir Ati Palhloo in Kothar belt.

Gulazar, 36, son of Mir Aalm Khan, is survived by his wife and four minor daughters and a son. The eldest of his daughters is 12 years old, second is 10 year, third is eight years old and fourth is six years old. A resident of Mahada Fehal Brari Angan in the same Kothar belt, his son is the youngest of around four years. He was working with FAD for the last seven years.

Later, the military officials drove the other two injured to the Govt Medical College (GMC) hospital in Anantnag. They were identified as Fida Hussain and Shabir Ahmad Khan, both residents of Gopalpora village in Anantnag.

The local station officer, Showkat Ahmad while confirming the incident said, “We are on spot but so far we have not got any clues how the blast exploded. The investigation will take some time.”

The FAD has been reporting such accidents quite often. On January 18, 2018, two labourers were injured in a similar blast. As this report is being filed, locals are in a protest over the failure in the safety system of the FAD.
