Police sources on Tuesday said that a joint party of Special Operation Group of JK Police and Army has launched a search and cordon operation in the Gujar Basti area of Chuntimulla in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Reports earlier said that sound of gunshots and explosion was heard on Tuesday morning in the area.

However police sources have declined the reports and said that it feared movement and presence of militants in the forests of Gujar Basti after which a search and cordon operation was launched. They said no gunshots or sound of explosion was heard in the area.

PCR Bandipora confirmed that the area, along with the nearby Sumlar forest area, has been cordoned off by the joint party of army and police’s Special Operations Group.
