SRINAGAR: The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has filed an FIR against BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya and Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly disseminating false and provocative information.
According to media reports, the complaint was lodged by IYC legal cell head Shrikant Swaroop B N at High Grounds police station. As reported, the FIR has been registered under sections 192 (provocation with intent to cause riot) and 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Citing the FIR, multiple media outlets reported that Malviya and Goswami have been accused of exploiting national sentiments, defaming political institutions, and inciting unrest. The controversy centres around a claim circulated online that the Istanbul Congress Centre in Turkiye is the office of the Indian National Congress — a statement the IYC termed “fabricated.”
In a statement cited by news reports, Swaroop described the act as “criminally motivated” and accused the two of attempting to mislead the public and provoke discord. He said the actions came “against the backdrop of strained India-Turkey relations” and called them a “direct threat to democratic integrity.”
The IYC has also appealed to the Press Council of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, CBI and other agencies to take urgent note of the matter, according to the reports.
