SRINAGAR: A massive fire broke out in a two- to three-storey textile factory in the Zakura Industrial Area of Srinagar on Thursday evening, causing extensive damage to property and machinery.
Officials said that a call reporting the blaze was received at 8:27 pm, following which fire tenders were immediately rushed from multiple fire stations.
The fire broke out at Silcom Silick Industry, where two to three interconnected structures were affected. Officials said the roofing of the buildings, embroidery machines, raw pashmina, and the doors and windows on the second floor were extensively damaged.
To bring the blaze under control, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services stations at Hazratbal, Nowsera, Soura, Ganderbal, Srinagar Headquarters and Zakura were pressed into service. Police and local residents also assisted in the firefighting operation.
“The fire was very intense. One civilian, identified as Mohammad Haseeb Khan, was found unconscious inside the building and was rescued by Fire and Emergency Services personnel. He was shifted to hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable,” an official said.
Preliminary estimates place the loss at around Rs 35 lakh.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. (GNS)
