SRINAGAR: Five pilgrims undertaking the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra were injured, one of them critically, after the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident on the Udhampur-Chenani stretch of National Highway-44 near Toldi Nallah early on Friday.
Officials said the accident occurred at around 6:10 am and involved an Ertiga bearing registration number MP13ZY-2836. All five injured are pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh travelling for the annual pilgrimage.
According to officials, one woman sustained critical injuries, while the remaining four suffered injuries of varying severity.
Personnel of the CRPF’s 137 Battalion, Gorkha 4/3, Civil Defence, Traffic Police and the Jammu and Kashmir Police immediately launched a rescue operation and shifted the injured to the Associated Hospital, Government Medical College, Udhampur, for treatment.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh confirmed the incident, stating that he had spoken to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Minga Sherpa, after receiving information about the accident.
“Just now spoke to DC Udhampur Minga Sherpa after receiving the report of a private motor vehicle from Madhya Pradesh, en route to Amarnath Yatra, having met with a road accident near Toldi Nallah on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway,” Singh said in a post.
He said five persons were injured, adding that one woman sustained critical injuries and was immediately referred to Government Medical College, Jammu, for specialised treatment.
“Every possible assistance is being provided. My office is in constant touch,” the Union Minister said.
