SRINAGAR: Five people were killed and seven others injured after a passenger minibus was struck by a Russian drone near Nikopol in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy said on Telegram that the minibus, travelling between cities, was hit by an FPV drone early in the morning. The seven injured people were receiving medical treatment, he said.
He also reported attacks on railway infrastructure at several locations in Ukraine, including a passenger train in the Mykolaiv region.
Ukraine’s state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia said train No. 122, travelling from Kyiv to Mykolaiv, came under attack. Passengers and railway staff were evacuated after receiving advance warning, and no casualties were reported.
According to Zelenskyy, the attack damaged a railway station and a locomotive in the Mykolaiv region. An electric locomotive was also damaged in Kovel in the Volyn region. Nearly 170 passengers were evacuated from the affected train, he said.
Zelenskyy said strikes were also reported in the Kyiv, Kherson, Donetsk and Poltava regions. Emergency crews were continuing efforts to extinguish a fire in Kyiv that had started overnight.
Russia has not responded to Zelenskyy’s claims.
