A day after a teenager was shot dead in police firing in Narbal area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Inspector General (IG) Central Reserve Police force (CRPF) K S Bhandari Sunday said that he has directed all the senior officers to arrange meetings with CRPF personnel and ask them to follow SOP in letter and spirit.

“I have directed all the officials to arrange meetings with the force personnel and ask them to follow the SOP in letter and spirit while dealing with law and order problems,” Bhandari told KNS.

Terming Narbal incident as unfortunate, he said, “The death could have been avoided but unfortunately it was not. I can tell you that our men who were deployed in Narbal along with police maintained maximum restraint. The way police officials fired on innocent youth was wrong.”

However, he added that there is better coordination between CRPF and police.

“We will not allow any body to disturb the law and order situation in Kashmir. I suggest the youth that instead of indulging in stone pelting they should work for the betterment of nation,” Bhandari said.

A 16-year-old youth Suhail Ahmad of Narbal was killed when police fired at protesters in Narbal area on Saturday morning. The police admitted that preliminary investigation revealed that constable Javaid Ahmad fired with his service rifle on directions of in-charge police party ASI Manzoor Ahmad in violation of laid down Standard Operating Procedure.
