SRINAGAR: Dr S Jaishankar, the Foreign Minister, paid a visit to the family of Tika Lal Taploo at their Rohini residence in Delhi. Taploo, who was the Vice President of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, was tragically assassinated by militants in 1989.
Jaishankar’s visit was organised as part of the ongoing ‘Sampark se Samarthan’ outreach program. According to reports in the media, Jaishankar assured the family that the situation in Kashmir was gradually improving and moving towards normalcy.
Taploo, a practicing lawyer at the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and a senior RSS member, was shot dead by militants on September 14, 1989. His assassination was one of the earliest political killings in Kashmir, and he had also contested several elections unsuccessfully.
