Abdul Majid Mir, Shangus, joins PDP on November 8, 2021

“Advocate Majid Mir was welcomed into the party fold by the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and Party General Secretaries Gh Nabi Lone Hanjura and Dr Mehboob Beg,” a party statement said. “Welcoming Advocate Mir into the party PDP President expressed hope that his joining would provide a major fillip in strengthening the party at the grassroots.”

Mir won the Shangus constitunecy in 1996 on NC mandate. In 2002, a retired BDO, Peer Hussain managed to win the seat with a slender margin by deafeating the Congress and pushing Mir to third slot. In 2008, PDP’s Mansoor Hussain won the seat but he lost to Congress’s Gulzar Wani in 2014. In the last election, it may be recalled here, Mir was denied mandate by the NC and he contested polls independently.

Right now, Mansoor is with the Peoples Conferenec leaving the slot empty which PDP expects to fill with Mir.
