SRINAGAR: At least four persons have been arrested after a 22-year-old Hafiz-e-Quran alongwith his father and brother were allegedly beaten brutally over Hadiya (salary) issue after Friday prayers in Bhalessa area of Doda district.

A police officer told a local news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a scuffle broke out between two groups after Friday prayers in which three persons identified as Abdul Wahid and Muhammad Rafi amd their father Nisar Ahmed — residents of Banjar Kahal Jugassar village in Bhalessa of Doda district were injured.

They were shifted to SDH Gandoh, he said, adding that Abdul Wahid (Hafiz-e-Quran) who lead Taraweeh prayers in the locality in the month of Ramadan, was referred to GMC Doda due to serious injuries.

Talking to KNO, Masjid Committee Banjar Sadar said that the scuffle took place after Friday prayers when committee decided to give Hadiya to Hafiz-e-Quran, collected for him.

“A local resident over some issues related to the prayer leader slapped one of his (Imam) cousins, which lead to the scuffle and resulted in injuries to three persons,” he said.

He added that police has arrested four persons and registered FIR under number 42/21 under section 341, 323, 504, 506, 147 IPC section, saying that investigation has been initiated. (KNO)
