Four persons were killed when Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel opened firing on the motorcyclists at Shopian, town in south Kashmir, according to locals.
But police said that militants attacked a CRPF camp and in the cross firing four persons were killed.
A senior police officer said, “Militants opened fire at the CRPF camp at Gagran in Shopian, and the security personnel retaliated”.
He added that four persons were killed. And weapons have been seized from the spot. “We are trying to ascertain the identities of the deceased,” the police official said.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people are protesting against what they call “unprovoked civilian killings”. Police sources said the protesters attacked the local police station by stones.
“We are not in a position to give details about the casualties because we are busy with the law and order problem,” police spokesman told Kashmir Life.
