SRINAGAR

Power Development Department (PDD) repeated its past history when in the wake of fresh snowfall, whole Kashmir Valley plunged into darkness.

PDD officials admitted power breakdown throughout Valley and said that efforts are on to restore the power supply. People of Kashmir on Wednesday spent their day without electricity and according to reports hundreds of areas all across Kashmir are still reeling under darkness.

“It is not new to us. We have become habitual now and believe that all the claims of administration that they are always fully prepared prove hollow and lip service,” one of the traders of Srinagar city told CNS.

Another resident said that PDD and administration are taking people far-granted. “There is no electricity as usual, no water, and no motorable roads. I wonder what the government is doing,” Showkat Ahmed said.

As fresh spell of snowfall started in Valley, the electricity immediately went off forcing people, including residents of Srinagar, to spend the time under darkness.

According to reports, the power supply to Srinagar areas including Jawahar Nagar, Lal Chowk, Gonikhan, Khayam, Khonakhan Dalgate, Gagribal and Buchwara went off soon after the snowfall started. “Tourists putting up in hotels in various areas faced tremendous inconvenience in absence of electricity,” they said.

In almost entire North and South Kashmir, the power supply was snapped soon after the fresh snowfall. The residents of areas including Rafiabad, Chandoosa, Uri, Boniyar, Tangmarg, Anantnag, Kadipora, Kulgam, Tral, Pampore  complained that the PDD is “not doing enough to restore power supply.“Can you please tell me what PDD is meant for. Why we have to suffer after every snowfall and if they don’t perform their work well, why then government is relying on these ‘inefficient’ officials,” a caller from Hyderpora told CNS.

Chief Engineer PDD, Bashir Ahmed Khan admitted that power supply was affected in several parts of Kashmir after fresh snowfall. He told CNS that the Department has pressed its entire machinery to restore the power supply and hopefully it will get restored by six in the evening.
