After a few days of dry spell, the weatherman has predicted more rains till 27th of this month.

“Light to moderate rains would occur in plains while the higher reaches are likely to receive heavy rainfall from 24 to 27 of this month,” an official in the Meteorological department (MeT) told KNS.

He said that the weather would mainly remain dry in Valley while there is possibility of light to moderate rainfall in plains with occasionally sunshine as well.

Three days ago, the Valley has witness a week long wet weather thereby resulted in the closure of Srinagar-Jammu National highway for four consecutive days due to the landslides at various places.

Several houses got also damaged due to the landslides triggered by heavy rainfall across the Valley.

Meanwhile, landslides damaged residential house in Handwara.

A house was damaged due to incessant rains in Shatigam Village in Handwara on Saturday. Locals said due to incessant rains Syed Abdul Kabir Geelani’s house was damaged on Saturday last week.

After the incident, panic and fear gripped the area as landslides occurred at various places.

Residents said incessant rain has caused damaged to nearly five acres of agricultural land in the area. They appealed government to rehabilitate them and alleged that the authorities, so far, had not paid any attention towards them.

Meanwhile, Tehsildar Handwara Bashir Ahmad said that he has send a team of officials to file a report about the damage and will accordingly compensate the affected people.
