SRINAGAR: Residents of Lar Circle in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have alleged that substandard wheat flour (atta) is being distributed through government sale centres, prompting demands for an immediate inquiry into its quality and source of supply.
Several residents claimed the flour was unfit for consumption and urged the authorities to take immediate corrective measures. They also sought strict action against the supplying flour mill, including its blacklisting if any irregularities are established during the inquiry.
“We cannot even feed this flour to animals. How can we consume it?” said Bashir Ahmad Parray, a resident of Yangoora village, expressing concern over the quality of the flour being supplied through government outlets.
Residents said the quality of food grains distributed through government sale centres should be thoroughly examined to ensure they meet prescribed standards and do not pose a risk to public health.
Responding to the allegations, Assistant Director, Mills, Bilal Ahmad, said the matter had already been brought to his notice and referred to the Director concerned.
“The issue has already come to my notice. I have written to the Director regarding the matter, and I hope it will be resolved in the coming days,” Ahmad said.
The residents appealed to the authorities to expedite the inquiry, conduct quality testing of the flour and ensure that only safe and standard wheat flour and other food grains are supplied through government sale centres.
