Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Friday asked authorities to come with explanation with respect to Mir Hafeez Ullah and added authorities are responsible for safety of Kashmiri detainees and if anything untoward happens to said leader, they will have to bear the consequences.

Expressing his serious concern over the mysterious missing of Mir Hafeez Ullah while in jail custody, Geelani said that after the recent episode of murderous assault on Pakistani prisoner Sona Ullah, the family members of Mir Hafiz Ullah are aggrieved and anxious about his where about. “They are concealing the facts with respect to the Hafez Ullah and we doubt that some unseemly incident may have happened and authorities are concealing the facts,” he said in a statement.

Geelani said that senior leader Hafeez Ullah is languishing in jails since 2008 and on April 4 this year the CIK arrested the leader after the court in an order quashed his detention “but the authorities instead of leaving him free, slapped one more PSA and arrested Hafeez Ullah, booked vide 01/DMA/PSA/2013v and shifted to Hira Nagar jail.”

Geelani said that court had directed the authorities to present him before it “but the prosecutor on behalf of administration filled an affidavit on 08-05-13, denying that no such person is in their custody.”

Geelani has asked the administration to come with clear statement “as it is a matter of serious concern for us and the family of said detainee and are worried because of the recent killing of Pakistani prisoner in Kotbalwal jail.”  He said that Hafeez Ullah was not keeping well in jail and his deteriorating health was a matter of serious concern and now the response and the statement of Hira Nagar jail authorities with respect to Hafeez Ullah has created doubts about his well being.

Expressing dismay over the biased approach of jail authorities against Hafeez Ullah, Geelani added that he was lodged with the criminals “and that too is a matter of concern for us.”

Impressing upon the Amnesty International and international community for their cognizance, Geelani urged to ascertain the reality about his where about and inform accordingly to his family. Geelani demanded that Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq ul Islam, Mir Hafeez Ullah including all detainees lodged in outside state and  said that administration has failed to provide security to political detainees and added that administration should shift all these to valley forthwith.

“Meanwhile in response to the appeal made by Geelani, funeral prayer in absentia were offered in  valley and a large number of people including pro-freedom leaders participated in the funeral prayers.

“The people prayed for the departed soul and offered tributes to all martyrs. The people present on occasion chanted slogans in favour of freedom and pledged their commitment with ongoing movement,” a Hurriyat (G) statement said.

Meanwhile, Geelani has expressed his grief over the demise of wife of Abdul Mateen, Muslim league leader and expressed his sympathy with the bereaved family.
