Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has strongly condemned the detention of Mohammad Yousuf Falahi district president Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Shopian and demanded immediate release of all political prisoners before Eid-ul-Azha.

According to a statement issued to a local news agency, KNS, Geelani while strongly criticizing the administration for slapping Public Safety Act against Mohammad Yousuf Falahi has said that ‘even tyrant rulers and governments do release the prisoners on such occasions but contrary to this Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s government has decided to go against the practice and continue with its repressive measures.

Geelani expressed his resentment against the arrest of Falahi and said that he has done nothing wrong except he resented and joined the voice against the brutal killing of five innocent youth in Gagaran Shopian.

Geelani emphasized for the release of all political detainees and said that state administration while defying court orders is bringing disgrace for the established judicial procedure. Referring the cases with respect to Masarat Aalam Bhat, Mir Hafiz Ullah and Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, Geelani said that after perusing their cases in court of law they were acquitted, however the police in arrogance of power responded otherwise and denied to honor the court orders and imposed PSA and rearrested them for the same allegations.

Falahi was just released two months before, said Geelani and added that in the meanwhile in a gruesome act five innocent youths were butchered at Gagran Shopian, the statement sent to KNS reads.

“Those killed were civilians including a labor from Bihar, namely Aalam Din. Falahi being a well-known figure in Shopian joined the people’s resentment and demanded removal of CRPF camp at Gagran. Geelani said that it is highly deplorable that instead of taking action against those involved in brutal killings, the administration has adopted double standard and in its arbitrary move slapped PSA and detained Falahi.”

Geelani said though we are celebrating the Eid but hundreds of our youth are languishing in different jails and even no cases have been registered against them and to prolong their detention they are not even produced in courts.
