Kamal Urges Govt Not To Extend Tosa Maidan Lease Agreement

National Conference senior leader and MLA Mustafa Kamal Saturday said the state government should pave way to make Tosa Maidan a tourist spot. He further said that the place should not be again used for the artillery firing exercises and the government should not extend the lease agreement with the army.

Talking to a local news agency, KNS, Kamal said the lease, that is near to end, should not be extended by the government and that there are many places outside the state which can be utilized for artillery firing exercises. The government is likely to take up the matter with the centre and the issue is expected to be resolved soon”

The NC senior leader further stated that the Tosa Maidan has a great tourism potential and the place could be used to attract tourists in good number. “The tourism contributes a lot in our economy and such places could be utilized as the tourist destinations so that the problem of un-employment is the state could be resolved to some extent.”

Kamal said that the Gondola cable car corporation has the project that connects it with the sunset peak located at Tosa Maidan and ends at Tangmarg. “I believe that the pending project shall be completed after the problem is resolved.”

He added that in the coming time the state government will take the issue of Tosa Maidan besides the issue of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) at the highest level. Tosa Maidan is one of the most attractive spot of meadows in the Pirpanjal range with some of the world’s finest natural beauty. The area was given to the army on lease for the artillery firing exercises. The Lease agreement is near to the end this year.

Senior separatist Leader Syed Ali Geelani has also asked the authorities not to extend the agreement.
