Chairman Huriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani while expressing serious concern over the humiliation of women visitors in Jail Tuesday said that the judiciary is not taking any action against contemptuous approach of the jail authorities.
“As per jail manual security checking is the sole responsibility of jail authorities and there is no justification for external forces for their interferences in jail functioning. However it is since long that CRPF personnel have been deployed there and assigned job of frisking and security checks, though there is no legal justification for this, “said Geelani.
The statement issued to KNS maintained that the CRPF personnel during their security checks do not respect or show any regard for honor, dignity and privacy of visitors and subject them to humiliation and insult and this is quite contrary to jail manual. “The double bench of state judiciary in its ruling on December, 24 has directed jail authorities to follow jail manual and deploy jail staff for frisking and security checks, however the court orders were followed just for few days and again CRPF personnel were deployed for security purpose and court directions were ignored for the reason better known to jail authorities. “
Geelani while referring to jail authorities stated further that either they are helpless or with intention are reluctant to obey court orders. He expressed his grief and surprise over the inaction of court and said that judiciary failed to take notice whether its orders were implemented in letter and spirit or ignored by authorities. “It is the prime duty of judiciary to deliver justice and people have great expectations.”
Geelani accused further that it is virtually police that runs the state affairs and has no regard for law or constitution .He warned authorities and urged to abide jail manual and court rulings and stop humiliation of women visitors in jail and said that insult and humiliation of women folk is intolerable for us.
