Condemning the reported expression of disrespect for Muharram by a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Kumar Vishwas, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday said it has hurt the feelings of Muslims and all freedom loving people across the country.

In a statement issued to KNS, the party spokesman said the leaders of youngest party (AAP) in the country need to curb their exuberance while making statements that have the potential of hurting people’s sentiments and sounding offensive.

The spokesman said it was highly disappointing that a prominent member of the emerging political party, which claims to represent resistance against tyranny and injustice, should have used disrespectful words against the greatest symbol of resistance that is Muharram.

Revolutionaries across the world have received inspiration from Karbala and in our part of the world even Mahatama Gandhi has acknowledged the importance of Imam Hussain’s (RA) mission in upholding the dignity and liberty of human beings, he added.

The spokesman said while it is a matter of some relief that Kumar has reportedly expressed apologies over the issue but the party will have to enforce discipline on such voices that sound like loose cannons at times. He said the party must formally issue a statement of regret and apology over the matter.
