SRINAGAR: A girl jumped into the Jhelum reservoir at Peerniya, Boniyar in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon.
As per reports, the incident took place at around 12:30 PM when the girl, accompanied by a boy, was spotted near the Damm reservoir site at Lower Jhelum Hydro Power Project in Preeniya Boniyar.
As per initial reports, the girl suddenly jumped into the river and drowned in the water, while the boy ran away from the spot.
Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched by police teams led by SDPO Uri and SHO Boniyar, along with SDRF personnel. Efforts are underway to retrieve the body.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and further investigation is in progress. (JKNS)
