SRINAGAR: The Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, organised an awareness event at Government Boys High School (GBHS) Takinwaripora to mark World No Tobacco Day 2025.
The programme, based on this year’s theme “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products”, included elocution and poster competitions aimed at highlighting the influence of tobacco industry marketing strategies. A short skit presented by students focused on the impact of tobacco promotion on youth.
Dr Zaid Zahoor from the Department of Community Medicine delivered a lecture on the health risks linked to smoking and nicotine consumption.
Head of the Department, Prof S M Salim Khan, urged students to act as No-Tobacco Ambassadors and encourage their families to declare their homes as tobacco-free.
Dr Touseef Ahmad Bhat, Secretary of Rotary Club Kashmir, called for community-level action to resist tobacco industry influence.
Organising Secretary Dr Sameena Yousuf expressed thanks to the school staff, including Headmistress Nageena Shamas and Mr Irfan, for their cooperation.
Certificates and medals were awarded to winners of the competitions, and participants received certificates of participation.
