A leader from Geelani led Hurriyat (G) said that since early morning police did not allow anyone to enter Geelani’s residence at Hyderpora here, the venue of the conference. “Police had sealed even Airport Road and a large contingent of policemen in riot gears was deployed around Geelani Sahab’s residence that stopped participants of the seminar from entering the venue.”

“Those stopped included party activists, journalists, civil society members, lawyers, traders and transporters. The domestic workers of Geelani were also not allowed to enter the house,” he added.

Meanwhile a Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Muhammad Yasin Malik was also disallowed to participate in the Seerat Conference.
JKLF spokesman said that Malik had reached outside the residence of Geelani, but a police party deployed outside prevented him from moving inside.

Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was also expected to participate in the conference, has been detained at his residence.

A Hurriyat (G) leader said that this was not the first time that Geelani was barred from organizing a seminar. “Not speaking of his outdoor activities even Geelani Sahab is not allowed to organize any seminar at his residence. This is the height of cruelty and we condemn this action of the government,” he said.

Condemning the police action, Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Geelani said that It is not for the first time that government has foiled our seminar. “Government is scared of this sacred freedom struggle and it is not providing any space to us. Repression and oppression will not desist us from taking this freedom struggle to its logical movement,” Geelani said.
