Expressing displeasure over the incident involving a police officer humiliating the incumbent Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, CPI (M) leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Monday said that the behaviour of police officer is unfortunate.

“It is purely a publicity stunt by police officer. He was more interested in uploading video than executing the law. He has failed to adhere to the protocol and pay due respect to the vice chancellor. The single world condemn is not enough to express proper resentment against this incident,” he said.

Tarigami said that Police is the biggest and reputed institution but few officers are hell-bent to malign the very credibility of this institution. “Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti must intervene and take note of the incident that has offended the sentiments of students community and teaching faculty,” he said.

“Let us hope the matter will be probed and action will be initiated against the erring police officer,” he added.

Pertinently, a probationary Deputy Superintendent of Police stopped Prof Andrabi’s vehicle at Udhampur on Sunday and removed the black film on the window panes of the vehicle while making him wait for more than 20 minutes.
