SRINAGAR: The Central Government on Friday said it has consistently raised the issue of cross-border terrorism, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, at bilateral and multilateral forums, while reaffirming that the safety, welfare and development of people living in the border areas of the Jammu region remain a priority.
The information was shared by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in a written reply to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 1108, tabled by Jugal Kishore and answered on July 24.
Responding to queries on India’s foreign policy concerning Jammu and Kashmir and measures taken to address cross-border terrorism, the Minister said the Government closely monitors developments in the country’s neighbourhood that could affect national interests and continues to take all necessary steps to safeguard and strengthen national security.
The Minister informed the House that India has placed strong emphasis on international cooperation to combat terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, through bilateral and multilateral engagements. He said India has consistently highlighted the impact of cross-border terrorism, with particular focus on the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, at all relevant international platforms.
The reply stated that the Ministry of External Affairs has established Joint Working Groups on Counter-Terrorism with 31 partner countries and regularly raises the issue in various multilateral forums.
Referring to the aftermath of the April 2025 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Government said seven parliamentary delegations visited 33 countries to present India’s perspective on cross-border terrorism before the international community.
On concerns relating to residents of the Jammu region along the International Border, the Minister said the Government accords high priority to ensuring the safety, welfare and development of all Indians, including citizens living in border areas.
The reply did not specify any constituency-specific measures for the Jammu Parliamentary Constituency, but reiterated the Government’s commitment to protecting national security and strengthening international cooperation against terrorism.
