The newly introduced solar power has drawn flak as the consumers across valley Saturday accused distributors of the solar inverters of failing to provide the promised solar electricity supply.

The reports received by KNS stated that the people Saturday accused that the solar inverters have turned a ‘hoax‘ as the same has failed to provide required power supply. “We purchased the solar inverters so that we could avoid the interrupted power cuts but later we were told by the distributers that the inverters do not work during the winters,” said Rashid Nazir, the resident of old city.

He added further that they were told that the  solar inverter will get charged by the sun light but we came to know later that it gets charged by the electricity only and not by the sun light. When we complained about the same, we were told that the solar inverter will get charged by the direct current only, said Rashid. “We purchased it to avoid power cuts but how come we can use the solar power when itself it is being charged by the electricity.”

Another consumer of uptown told KNS that he was told that he could get more than 14 hundred watts through solar power but the same turns out to be a trap at the end. “In actual it only generates 200 watts of power that too during the summers and its battery does not get charged by the solar energy but by the direct current,” said Altaf Hussain.

He stated further that the solar panel has no capacity to generate power on its own and that it needs continuous support of the alternate current to get it running.

The leading solar distributer of valley G.M.Sons when contacted told KNS that the consumers have to make sure to examine whether the solar panel they purchase is approved by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) or not. There is so much chaos in the market, says Adil Mir, who works G.M.Sons Karan Nagar. He stated further that the approved solar panel provides efficiency of 85 percent. “The solar panel, battery and wire must be of Exide as the same has been approved by the authorities.”

However, officers at the helm in science and technology department were not available for comments.
