SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain and snow at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir until January 31.
On January 23, very light rain or snow is likely at isolated locations, while from January 24-28, the weather is expected to remain dry. From January 29-31, the conditions may turn cloudy again with light rain or snow at isolated spots.
Met official has advised tourists, travellers, and transporters to follow advisories issued by the administration and the traffic department.
Meanwhile, Kashmir’s renowned ski resort Gulmarg received another spell of snowfall, while some plains experienced rainfall over the past 24 hours, officials said.
The higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley, including Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, recorded 11.2 mm of snowfall, much to the delight of tourists. Several other areas in the valley also experienced light rainfall.
Except for Gulmarg, night temperatures continued to rise across most weather stations in the valley, recording 3°C to 6°C above normal during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Day temperatures on Monday were also 3°C to 5°C above normal at most weather stations, except Gulmarg and Kupwara.
In Srinagar, the minimum temperature rose to 0.6°C compared to 1.0°C the previous night, which was 2.9°C above average for the region.
Gulmarg remained the coldest location in the valley, with its minimum temperature dropping to -8.5°C compared to -3.2°C the previous night. This was 0.1°C below normal for the ski resort during this time of the season.
Pahalgam recorded a low of -4.2°C compared to -2.2°C the previous night, which was 2.7°C above the seasonal average for this South Kashmir destination.
Qazigund, located on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, recorded a minimum temperature of 1.6°C against -1.6°C the previous night, which was 5.9°C above normal.
Kokernag in South Kashmir registered a low of 1.2°C compared to -1.4°C the previous night, 4.9°C above the seasonal average.
Kupwara recorded a minimum temperature of 1.2°C against 1°C the previous night, which was 4.9°C above normal for this North Kashmir frontier district. (KINS)
