Heavy rains and snowfall lashed parts of Kashmir valley Saturday bringing temperatures down by several degrees even as MeT continues to paint a gloomy weather outlook for the next two days.

Upper reaches including famous tourist resort Gulmarg received season’s first snowfall much to the delight of visitors who turned playful. In other parts of valley though, public grew restless as word about the 3-day wet spell renewed fears of flooding akin to last year’s. However, Director MeT, Sonam Lotus said that the rainfall would be intermittent. “This is not going to be continuous,” he said adding that people must not spread panic. “It is unlikely that we will have any chance of flooding at this time of the year,” he said. “Although we have to stay vigilant.”

Reports reaching Kashmir Life said fruit growers, in particular are worried about their produce as bad weather threatened to destroy crops. “This time normally we would have begun to process our produce for sales but inclement weather has proven unfavourable,” a fruit grower said. “Now we are looking forward to take it to the cold storage facilities at Lassipora to prevent any chance of damage.”
