SRINAGAR: Gunshots were reportedly heard on Thursday evening during a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the upper reaches of Yusmarg in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, officials said.
Official sources said that following the initial gunfire, additional reinforcements were rushed to the area to plug escape routes. Due to darkness and the dense forest cover, a strict multi-tier cordon has been maintained overnight to resume the operation at first light.
Earlier, joint forces launched a search operation in the forested belt after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the suspected presence of militants in the area.
