People from the backward, snowbound valley of Gurez Wednesday decried non-availability of essential amenities to the people who remain cut off from rest of the work for close to 5 months.

In a statement to KNS, a local welfare organisation said that the people of Gurez were suffering for non availability of helicopter services. They said the Helicopters being operated by the state administrations only carries “influential passengers”.

They said despite the NHPC having taken over land for Kishen Ganga Project, most of the people whose land was procured by the government have not been paid compensation.

They said the Gurez valley is facing acute shortage of teachers as most of them have been attached at adjacent places. They also demanded that the local youth be provide jobs by the NHPC and HCC.
