Expressing his deep concern and anguish over the continuous imprisonment of prominent lawyer Advocate Shabir Ahmad Bukhari, Chairperson All Parties Hurriyat Conference (g) Syed Ali Geelani Saturday demanded his immediate release.
He said that “martial law” has been “practically implemented” in the state where the lawyers too are not spared. “The police should explain that why Shabir Ahmad Bukhari is under detention and what is his crime,” he said.
Meanwhile, strongly condemning the invoking of “lawless law” PSA on a Hajan Sonawari youth, Danish Ahmad Dar, and continuous detention of another two youths Mohammad Ashraf Mir and Abdul Hameed Bhat in police station Hajan from last 25 days, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (g) said, “the police have created a war like situation in every nock and corner of the valley and they are everywhere detaining the pro-freedom activists and common youths on baseless charges.”
“Danish Ahmad Dar is the first victim of the black law of PSA in 2016. Public Safety Act (PSA) is a cruel and inhuman law according to which a person can be detained for years and months without running any trial and he is not presented in any court,” a Hurriyat Conference (g) statement said this evening.
Hurriyat Conference expressed its deep concern that during the coalition government of PDP-BJP, the PSA like inhuman law is being “openly and extensively used against the pro-freedom leaders, activists and the common youths”. “The Bandipora police are playing a more pro-active role in this and they regularly follow the pro-freedom people.”
Hurriyat cautioned that “this behaviour of police will have very serious consequences and it will further increase the political uncertainty and instability in the state”.
Expressing his deep shock, grief and sorrow over the loss of 10 precious human lives in the Chanderkot Ramban fire incident, Geelani demanded independent investigation into the incident.
He expressed his sympathy and condolence with the families of the deceased persons and prayed to Almighty Allah to give them patience to bear this loss.
